This morning the Grade 2 students gathered together to learn about a local problem in the BEE community.
Please remember to not only visit my Blog on a regular basis, but other Blogs too!
Ms. Vahaaho has a Blog for Physical Education and our Administration has one too. Click on the link above to go back to the Edgemont Blogs! We have had a BEESY week learning about the differences between bees and wasps. The students are able to log on to their Gmail accounts and access websites I e-mailed to them. They have learned to read through information and extract the most important information for their fact books. Many students quickly realized that comparing bees and wasps wasn't enough...they wanted to learn MORE, so they began researching the difference between Honey Bees and Bumble Bees.
One of our science explorations this year will be to learn about small animals that crawl and fly. This includes, but is not limited to, insects, arachnids, worms, snakes, and other animals. This week we spent time talking about being connected. We asked each other how are we connected and we found out many different ways in which we are all connected; family, friends, languages, eye color, activities ect...
We wondered if you can only be connected to people? We then asked what does it mean to be connected to something? The students came up with the idea that "being connected to something means that it is important to you and it bring you happiness." Here are some samples of our writing today! What a great start to the new school year!
Our class is rolling and we're continuing with the great learning experiences that our students began in Grade 1. Our theme this school year is about community and we are asking the BIG question "How are we all connected?" We are all members of many communities and as members, we have a unique opportunity and responsibility to make our communities even better. This week, we are learning about our school community and how we can care for ourselves, this place and each other. |
