Fill the Foyer With Food
On December 1st the Grade one and Grade five students are launching an Edgemont School food bank drive to support the Mayor's food drive. We are hoping to raise enough food to “Fill the Foyer” and will then donate it to the Calgary Food bank. Our food drive will run from Dec. 1 to Dec. 15. Did you know 41% of the people who use the Calgary food bank are children? Your donation of a healthy, non-perishable food item helps a child grow and stay healthy. Donating items that are found in the Canada food guide is a great idea and the food bank is especially in need of peanut butter and pasta. When you bring your donation to class, your teacher will give you a small card so that you can write about why you chose to donate. These will be displayed along with the collected food. Think about your donation, if you wouldn’t eat it, don’t donate it. Thank you for making a difference and donating to those who need it most. Written by the Grade 5 students in Room 25 Please remember...each Friday, students will receive a list of root words. If your child doesn’t know how to spell those words then please practice them at home together. If your child knows how to spell the root words, please help them to create new ‘challenge’ words, which include the root word.
If your child knows how to spell the root words, then they should be creating and learning how to spell their "challenge" words as homework and should be ready to work with those words on Monday. If your child is working on the root words, then they also need to be learning how to spell those words as homework and need to be ready to work with those words on Monday. As one of our spelling activities we have been taking the root or challnege words and puting them into sentences like this one below, so students need to know what their word means. root word challenge word be because Sentence I like to read because I can learn new information. ![]() We have been discussing Remembrance Day and WHY the poppy is so important. We have learned about the famous poem In Flanders Field by Major John McCrae and that the poppy is the symbol of Remembrance Day because it was found beside the battlefield of WW1 and today people wear a poppy to show a sign of respect for the fallen soldiers and veterans of all the wars. On Wednesday, November 11th at 11:00 AM we should all stop what we are doing and have a moment of silence for 2 minutes to remember all of the soldiers who fought for us. |
