![]() Inspired by the picture book Mooshka: A Quilt Story, by Julie Paschkis, students have been using 2D shapes to render a symbolic pattern of Nova Scotian lifestyle in quilt form. While exploring 2D and 3D shapes and patterns, students have been developing a deeper understanding and appreciation of how geography, culture, language, heritage, economics and resources shape and change Canada’s communities. They are also learning the accurate mathematical names for the various 2D shapes and they are sorting them by attributes and describing their properties. Their symbolic pattern then has been documented by each student to be used as a reference for creating their own quilting square that will be a piece of a larger class quilt that we will share at Parent Teacher Conferences.
