On Wednesday, May 4th Edgemont School will be participating in
Hats ON! for Mental Health! We are encouraging students and staff to show support for mental health awareness by wearing a fancy fedora or a charming chapeaux to school. Please visit http://canwetalk.ca for more information on Hats ON! for Mental Health and http://www.cmha.ca/mental-health/understanding-mental-illness/ for more detailed information on understanding Mental Illnesses! The Learning Commons has a NEW schedule for book exchange! We will no longer have our Library Day on Day 4. From this point forward, book exchanges will begin on a drop-in, as needed bases.
Mrs. Sloane will send 2-3 students to Learning Commons at appropriate times when they need to renew or exchange their books! You could end up going to the LC to exchange your books on a daily basis, twice a week or once a week. It will now fit your reading schedule a bit better! Happy Reading! Inspired by the picture book Mooshka: A Quilt Story, by Julie Paschkis, students have been using 2D shapes to render a symbolic pattern of Nova Scotian lifestyle in quilt form. While exploring 2D and 3D shapes and patterns, students have been developing a deeper understanding and appreciation of how geography, culture, language, heritage, economics and resources shape and change Canada’s communities. They are also learning the accurate mathematical names for the various 2D shapes and they are sorting them by attributes and describing their properties. Their symbolic pattern then has been documented by each student to be used as a reference for creating their own quilting square that will be a piece of a larger class quilt that we will share at Parent Teacher Conferences.
Next week, April 18th-21st, we will be having Litter-Less Lunches to raise awareness for Earth Day! Here are some ideas for packing lunches next week! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected] We have learned that 3-D shapes have faces, edges and vertices. Here is a website has various geometry activities that supports our learning....http://www.mathplayground.com/index_geometry.html

We have had a great LAST day of school recognizing St. Patrick's Day and wrapping up our Arctic work! We don't normally "do worksheets", but today we took some time to learn about different mixed-media and revisited tints and shades and created beautiful shamrocks. We also put our addition and subtraction skills to use and worked on a Mystery Picture! |
