I noticed that when I gave the agenda message "Try to play outside after school" MANY students panicked and gave excuses to why they couldn't go outside and play after school.
We brainstormed many great ideas that they can do outside after school; -go play at the park -ride your bike -climb a tree -fly a kite -walk to Nose Hill -play tag or other games with friends or siblings -walk your dog -play with your skipping rope, hula hoop, chalk and bubbles -play sports -if your parents run, you can bike or scooter with them -take pictures of nature -go on nature walk or scavenger hunt -sketch nature -have your after school snack outside -build paper airplanes or BOATS -read outside -build "mini" inukshuks Dear Grade 2 Families,
Please join us on TOMORROW anytime between 4:00-6:00 for our Arctic Celebration of Learning. Your child will take you on a tour of all of our Grade 2 learning spaces, focusing on how each class approached our overarching question, “How is water connected to the quality of life in the Arctic community?” You will see the students depth of understanding and appreciation of how geography, culture, language, heritage, economics and resources shape and change Canada’s Northern communities. ![]() Kiddle is a kid friendly search engine from Google and if you type inappropriate words it tell you this…Oops, try again! We will be using Kiddle at school when we are researching, but it also is a great tool for homework. Enjoy! Check us out...we are rocking our PINK in support of PINK Shirt Day. Today we are going that extra mile to be kind to everyone and we are ensuring that we all feel included and our PINK shows that we can stand up to BULLIES!
Our kindness doesn't stop here...we now are aware of how our actions and words can hurt, so we will do our best to always be kind and include everyone! Tomorrow is PINK Shirt Day. Our class set a goal to have the ENTIRE class wearing something pink to support anti-bullying. I am hoping that we all can find a little pink to wear, but if you can't, Mrs. Sloane has washable PINK hairspray. If you are okay with your child getting a small spray in their hair, please write a note in their agenda. Here is a quick video explaining how Pink Shirt Day began! ![]() What: Inuit Celebration of Learning When: Tuesday, March 8th Time: 4:00-6:00 Open House Where: Grade 2 classrooms at Edgemont School We have been playing many different addition and subtraction math games to reinforce our mental math skills, but also to build our mathematical thinking. As we play these games we focus on explaining our thinking. Instead of saying 26+43=69, we say 20+40=60 AND 6+3=9, so 60+9=69.
Try these games at home and make sure you explain your THINKING! Race to 100 or Race to 0 with a focus on Doubles and Near Doubles (Hundreds Chart, Dice and markers) Double Trouble; Speed, Highest or Lowest Numbers (Deck of Cards and Dice) Subtraction Snap (Deck of Cards) To understand the communities past, students participated in a 'See Think Wonder' routine with Inuit artifacts and through this process they began to understand and appreciate how the community has emerged over time.
To extend the ‘See Think Wonder’ routine, students have brought in Personal artifacts. Students have had the opportunity complete the 'See Think Wonder' routine on 3 of their classmates' artifacts and starting on Monday they will have the chance to share the story behind their personal artifact with the class. Through this process, we hope that if students have the opportunity to tell the story behind their artifact, they in turn, will be able to gain a better appreciation for the story behind the Inuit artifacts. Mrs. Dressel found an article with an update on the Bison project in Banff National Park. We were excited to read that the project is right on track and the Bison will be here in January 2017!

Here are a few things families need to know about the day.
1. Be early for school, ready to enter the doors when the bell rings at 8:58 AM. Do not arrive late as we are not waiting for LATE students. 2. Studnets will leave their backpacks at school...they will ONLY bring their lunch! Bring a lunch that has little to no garbage. 3. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. It's going to be a nice day again, so please leave your winter boots, mittens, toques, and scarves at home and wear outdoor shoes and a jacket. 4. Do not bring a water bottle on the trip as the science centre has many water fountains. 5. Please ensure your child brings any necessary medications (e.g. EpiPen, asthma inhaler). 6. Parent volunteers, please be at the school by 8:40 AM for a meeting in the Learning Commons. We are excited to see everyone tomorrow for our exciting boats and buoyancy field trip to Telus Spark! |
